I didn’t post yesterday, as is my normal practice, but I spent my day thinking about life and who we live it for. What it means to love and be loved. What grief looks like 23 years later. How you can be present in the current moment and still remain rooted and connected to the past.

Losing my sister changed me in ways that I am still discovering, even now, but loss of her presence does not mean she is not a part of my present day. I hear her laugh and her teasing whenever I’m being silly. I remember the closeness we were building as our time ran out. I think about her as the one who was my biggest opp at birth (sibling rivalry was strong lol) and how she became the one who I carry with me through every season and with whom I share every success. How she could get under my skin like no other human being, but anyone who messed with her would not be ready for the wrath I would unleash on her behalf. If y’all know that I don’t play about mine, this right here was the blueprint.

This is where it started. I am the sister, the friend, the protector, the nurturer, the advocate that I am because of her. Chantal Marrise McCoy, you were stolen from us while you were still becoming. You could have been absolutely anything you set your mind to, and you were EVERYTHING to more than you knew. I’m forever proud to be your big sis, and I wake from every dream you visit feeling like you were holding my hand. I smile as I write this, and I will smile for you always. I keep living and chasing dreams because you would want nothing more than for us to be happy. I just know that our reunion will be full of hugs and laughter. Not too soon, baby sis, but soon come. 💜

@blackromancebookfestival 2026 was one for the books! There is something about us that feeds the soul and fills the cup the way no one else can. The way we pour into each other and lift each other is truly art in motion, and try hard as one might, replication pales in comparison. The frequency for the weekend was everything I needed it to be, vibes on 1000.

I FINALLY got to meet @leojo3 in person—I can’t believe it took us four years, but I am SO HAPPY I finally got to wrap my arms around you. Your talent is so special and I have been blessed to be paired with you.

I wish I had gotten more pictures, and there were so many folks I missed because we had opposite signing schedules—I didn’t get to see most of my clients on their panels even—but readers, y’all showed up and showed out with even more force than last year, and I couldn’t be more grateful for this community. This isn’t the first instance I’ve heard of with this sort of scam outreach where someone is purporting to be an agent, but it’s the first I’ve seen one of me. If you receive something like this, it’s okay to reach out to the agent via their agency website to confirm this isn’t their outreach, and once confirmed, flag it for the email server. Stay vigilant out there!!

I had the distinct pleasure of attending my first bookish event in Barcelona along with a @ldlainc co-agent and colleague (Jennifer, muchas gracias para la invitación). I was so excited to finally meet @leoking8473 in person—an author friend I have admired from afar for quite some time. He and @jordan_harper_yo spoke on their newest projects, on the craft, on how the genre can be used for social commentary to address what others can’t, on Hollywood and adapted works. The Spanish translation of KING OF ASHES was available, and I can’t wait to dig in.

Such an interesting dynamic to witness, given the interview questions were asked in Catalán and their responses were in English. And the moderator was fantastic. Many in the audience listened to remote translations. I’m really in awe of both of these talents and excited at this introduction to the literary world in a global scale. Can’t wait for the next event. ☺️

I love that my forties have been all about owning exactly who I am, who I am growing to be—unapologetically. No more living for someday or for someone. I’m living right now, out loud, and nobody has to like it or love it but me.

When you no longer search for validation, you may be surprised at how much lighter your shoulders feel.

I’m here in Barcelona for a good time and (maybe) a long time. For now, it’s about learning and culture and networking and vibes. Lots and lots of vibes.

The world is vast—stepping outside of what’s comfortable and gaining new perspective feels right to me. There are always trials before blessings, and I’ve found that embracing the lessons quickens all of the good. If this year’s word is ease, I guess in part that means getting out of my own way and allowing myself those things I’ve held at arm’s length because I didn’t feel deserving.

Why do we fight our blessings? Are we afraid of what comes next if we accept them? Change is coming no matter what. Might as well find joy in the journey!

I love that my forties have been all about owning exactly who I am, who I am growing to be—unapologetically. No more living for someday or for someone. I’m living right now, out loud, and nobody has to like it or love it but me.

When you no longer search for validation, you may be surprised at how much lighter your shoulders feel.

Last year, I decided that 2026 would be a year where I would endeavor to be more present, more kind to self, more open to what could be if I allowed it. I never did study abroad. I worked full time most of college and law school. So why am I traipsing around Barcelona? Well… I live here now.

So often, we put our heads down and hustle, constantly working for someday, planning for a future that ain’t guaranteed. But what if we took the trips, allowed ourselves rest without conditions, gave ourselves the breaks we deserved, wore the good clothes and special fragrances without waiting for an occasion? What if we lived today?

Life doesn’t start when you have had a full career, you’ve accomplished the goals society has set, and you’ve earned retirement. Life starts when you take that first breath. We only get one. I pray that we don’t live this one gift just going through the motions or in a way that pleases everyone else but ourselves.

What brings you joy? What makes you feel alive? Are you doing that thing or are you saving it for someday?
